Benton High School Cheerleaders Win Nationals

DALLAS, TX – December 29, 2009, the Benton High School Cheerleader squad was named the National Cheerleaders Association National High School Champions for their division

By a 0.65 point margin, the 20-member team beat out Coppell High School of Coppell, Texas in overall point judging, said coach Karen Hilborn.

Members of the squad are: Brynne Simmons, Co-Capt. Carly Glover, Co-Capt. Livi Meadors, Co-Capt. Laura Cooper, Co-Capt. Bailey Mustain, Capt. Katie Mills, Kaylee Wingerter, Lindi Viner, Manager Hillary Quinn, Mallory Croft, Stephanie Qandah, Lauren Goines, Jenny Belz, Jacie Gregory, Jessica Simmons, Holly Mills, Kaitlyn Nalley, Cori Dobbins, Keeleigh O’Neal, Jenny Chilton, and Carley Creel.

This year’s Summit Bank Spa City Shootout at Summit Arena in Hot Springs will feature a format of 16 high school basketball teams competing in a round-robin tournament.

Come support your favorite teams!

10:00am – Girls – Mt. St. Mary vs. Benton
11:30pm – Boys – Benton vs. Bryant
1:00pm – Girls – Hot Springs vs. CAC
2:30pm – Boys – Hot Springs vs. Oak Grove
4:00pm – Girls – Lakeside vs. Mt Pine
5:30pm – Boys – Lakeside vs. CAC
7:00pm – Girls – Lake Hamilton vs. Bryant
8:30pm – Boys – Lake Hamilton vs. Mt Pine

2009 Salt Bowl Shootout Split

The Panthers extended their lead to 52-41 late in the fourth quarter to win the annual Salt Bowl Shootout at UALR’s Jack Stephens Center on Friday night as both teams wrapped up their pre-Christmas schedule.

The Lady Hornets improved to 9-0 on the season with a 70-56 win over their rivals in the annual Salt Bowl Shootout at UALR’s Stephens Center on Friday night.

To be eligible for the half time shooting contest during the Salt Bowl Shootout at the Stephen’s Center on December 18th, each school will hold a 3 point shooting contest on December 12th.  The winner from each gym will be one of the 4 contestants to compete for the vehicle.

Who can enter?

If you do not currently play on a junior high or senior high school basketball team, you can enter this contest! No matter where you live!

SALINE COUNTY, AR – Everyone across the state has heard of the Salt Bowl where Bryant and Benton compete with each other in the largest high school football game in the state.

This year on December 18th at 7:00 PM, Bryant and Benton will compete in the largest high school basketball game in the state. The event is so big that it will be held in the Stephen’s Center at UALR.

Gates will open at 5:30 PM and tip off for the girls game will be at 7:00 PM followed by the boy’s game. Both school’s Choirs and Bands will be there to provide Christmas music before and at half time of the game. Santa Claus will be there to take pictures with the youngsters.

At half time of both games 2 people will have an opportunity to shoot for a vehicle that will be sponsored by Everett’s!

To be eligible for the half time shooting contest each school will hold a 3 point shooting contest on December 12th.  The winner from each gym will be one of the 4 contestants to compete for the vehicle.  Who can enter?  If you do not currently play on a junior high or senior high school basketball team, you can enter this contest!

There are only 5000 tickets available for this game. Tickets will be sold in advance at all Big Red Locations for $5 each. They will also be sold through the Athletic Director’s offices. The tickets  will go on sale on Dec. 10, 2009.

Also this year both schools have teamed up with National Multiple Sclerosis Society to help bring awareness.

Basketball: Salt Bowl Shootout Press Conference

On Wednesday Dec. 9th at 11:30am in the Legends Room of the UALR Jack Stephens Center there will be a press conference and lunch to annouce the 2009 Salt Bowl Shootout.  The basketball games (boys and girls) between the Benton Panthers and Bryant Hornets will be held at the Stephens Center on the campus of UALR.

Coaches and players from Benton and Bryant will be on hand to talk about the game and details of the game and events surrounding it will be released.

Lunch will be provided to media and guests courtesy of Gary James with Coca-Cola.
